Welcome to the Yellow Labyrinth!

Hello all, and welcome to my blog! I am a senior at University of Nebraska at Omaha, and I enjoy writing. A lot. Oh, yeah! And my name’s Robby. But you can call me… you know what? Robby’s fine. I am here to try and make you laugh and sorta… think? But not too hard! That’s too much pressure. I’m not responsible for that!

Full disclosure and trigger warning: I believe in gender equality — so by definition — I am a feminist. #sorrynotsorry If you’re saying “Oh, yeah! Second paragraph. Ze smugly describes zirself as a feminist. I can’t wait to read the rest of this!” in earnest, this is the right blog for you! I like to blog about LGBT/feminism/heteronormativity/sexuality/whiteness/media themes… but, in, like, a funny way or intentionally over-comma-ed, over-hyphenated way.

But, what does this admission — this declaration — of feminism mean for you? Well, gentle reader, that just means that I will be mentioning gender (and sexuality/ethnicity/ability/age, etc.) whenever I feel it is relevant. And as me and my good friend Alea have learned, “Gender is always potentially relevant.” That being said, I think this is a perfect time to reveal: I’m a white cis-gender male!

If you know me, you know exactly how accurate this image is.

And even with this limited perspective I will (try my best to) inspect books, movies, TV shows and video games using a non-white, non-cisgender, non-male lens. I’ve heard people say, “Just write about what you know.” To a freshman in high school, that is probably good advice. But if I do tgiphy2hat I will miss out on the important perspectives and lives of brown/trans/female/LGBT/neuro-divergent people; all-of-whom are underrepresented, misrepresented or otherwise marginalized by mainstream media. That being said, I’m obviously going to be making some mistakes. Sometimes I forget to take my “Robby” goggles off. Or put them on. Know what I mean? White cis-gender queer guys, am I right?

I’m totally queer, in more ways than one but by the time you reach this sentence… duh! And surprise! Most of my friends happen to be queer women. I wonder why!?

Housekeeping: You may have noticed I use a ton of animated images. I’ll try not to be annoying with them. If they are too much, lemme know.

If you want to know more about me and can’t wait for me to crassly blurt it out on my next blog post please direct further questions to Ms. Davis. She may not be helpful, however:

But, feel free to comment, asking a question.

I hope you drop by often…

Also, I hope you laughed at least once.
